Animation - Hxh wins. I havent seen FMAB but I love One Piece way more than Hunter x Hunter. In terms of characters I think Hxhs are well written so Hxh takes this one. Hunter X Hunter is way better.
But then the other story has Better antagonists like HISOKA CHROLLO MERUEM. Feitan one of the phantom troupe memebers is well known for decapitating people. I absolutely love FMA. FMAB is a complete well-constructed story that has closure and a sense of finality to it.

The universe and the society are very specific and extremely well-developed. While FMA takes place in an alternative universe in which mankind has learned to use alchemy HxH takes place in a One Piece-ish kind of world full of monsters and a basically infinitely expandable map. There were too many opportunities missed with Hunter x Hunter and although I did enjoy that series I just dont understand why some claim it to be one of the best series of all time when it really wasnt all that great.
